staffy girl

i put a post up about this young lady ages ago but the owner changed her mind,her name is Ruby and she will be 2 in august the owner knows rehoming her would be best as she get 0 attention,no walks or human interaction! she is black and white and is good with other dogs,she is not spayed...can anyone help?

this dog is now with me i have not seen a dog this thin in a long time,, poor lolly as she now called is the sweetist dog i cant belive sum one allows a dog 2 get like this ,fair play 2 leonie 2 keep at the woman 2 hand her over , lolly wont leave my side when i go the shop she sits at the door barking till i return, in a day she has taken 2 me yesterday when i brought her home she was grabing food as if she was never fed she got small amounts i left food out for her wen i went 2 bed and 2 day she a lot better not grabin she dosent mind other dogs or people she just wants 2 be loved, amber will post some pics a big thanks 2 leionie for rescuing lolly from that back yard ,, if there was an award for the best people for rescuing necglected dogs it would go 2 ,rach kazza leione and elana they are great people and put there hearts in 2 what they do i no there are a lot more people out there that do a lot of work as well

lolly is sorted she will be with me for a wile till she well enuf 2 be nuterd ,she has gained some weight since i took her nearly a week now ,she is very clingy with me when i go 2 work she will sit at the door barking till i get home it amazing what a bit of care can do,, she not using my house as a toilet any more she nos that food is left out for her all the time ,im workin on her manners now as if some one trys 2 give her food from there hand she still snatching it so no one allowed feed her only me ,,she great with people kids and dosent mind other dogs as long as they not in her face she a dote :heart:by the way i think she crossed with a cow with them colours

Sounds like she has separation anxiety Carol if she's barking until you come home. You'll need to work on this if it's not to become a bigger problem.

There's loads of things that you can do to help this. Make sure she has lots of things to do while you're gone - frozen kongs stuffed with her favourite food (peanut butter is always a big hit) will keep her busy while you're gone. Try adding rescue remedy to her water to help her relax. Don't make a fuss when you're leaving or coming home. Don't reinforce the barking with attention. When you come in after being out ignore her for the first 5 minutes. A few drops of lavender essential oils on her bedding may help also and leave the radio on low with lyric FM or a talk radio station.

You could also try crate training her. Tripod gave me a handout on this that I can email to you if you PM me your email address. You need to get her to associate the crate with lots of positive things. So start with having the crate in the room with the door open and hiding bits of chicken etc under the bedding. Every time she goes into the crate throw some more chicken into her and lots of praise. Keep doing this, gradually building up the length of time she's in the crate before giving her a treat. So for example, when she goes in the first time you keep praising her and constantly feeding her chicken. Then gradually building it up so she's only getting a bit of chicken every few seconds etc etc.

Eventually you'll build up to having her in the crate with the door closed and throwing chicken in through the bars of the crate, all the time building up the association of the crate as a great place. When you've gotten to the stage where she's sitting in the crate with the door closed while being fed chicken, try putting a frozen kong in the crate and let her go in and eat it in there. It will take her a while to get through the kong so builds up the amount of time that she's in there. With a bit of luck after she's finished the kong she'll be so tired that she settles down for a nap.

There's loads of other stuff in the handout and I'm sure Tripod will correct any errors I've made in the above or include anything I've left out.

Separation anxiety is not good for a dogs mental health. I know it can seem cute that the dog has become so attached to you that they hate to see you go, but the last thing you want is a distressed dog who hates you being away for any length of time. I went through it with Millie when she first arrived and it wasn't good for her.

Obviously loads of exercise will help to tire her out so a nice long walk before you have to go out will help also so that hopefully she'll just sleep while you're gone.

the first and second pic is lolly now the 3rd and 4th is the nite we got her and the others are of now thanks 2 kysuki for helping with the pics ,, thanks kazza with the info there is always some one with her wile im in work and i have my daughters and sons walking her as well so she nos it not just my self and her ,i dont really want 2 cage train her as i think being locked out a back for a long time was enuf for the poor dog,, i will try 2 walk past her with no talk when coming home see how that works , she dosent mind other dogs and walks past them she dosent like them in the house but im going 2 let the dog next door in the garden for a wile every day 2 play with her then when she used 2 that il let him in house she seems a fast learner ,she only started playin with her toys last nite but it only a week 2moro so early days hopefully within the next week or so she be ready 2 be nuterd she ganing weight fast leionie wont no lolly when she sees her enjoy ur holls leionie
