Peaceful Protest for restricted breeds SEPT coming

Post  celticpitbulls on Wed Jul 02, 2008 4:57 pm

campaigning for responsible dog ownership and we believe that public safety is most impotent.
There will be a peaceful protest in sept date will be giving shortly,
Please DO NOT bring any dogs. Posters of deed not breed more than welcome.

We are in favor of updating of the Control of Dogs Act which would be effective nationwide, and would ensure traceability and accountability of owners.
Banning specific breeds has not worked in other countries and wont work here in Ireland. The root of the problem in Ireland is irresponsible owners, lack of education and most of all lack of enforcement of the existing legislation. (BSL) Breed-specific legislation only persecutes the innocent and responsible owners and protects irresponsible owners as the blame is always put on the dog. THE DDA outlines specific types of breeds and mixes of them breeds, in the belief that some are intrinsically more dangerous than others. This has been the most controversial aspect of the DDA. The main problem is that it gives the false impression that dogs that are not on our restricted breed list are not potentially dangerous. When a dog attack is reported in the media, the focus is always on the breed rather than the owner. It is important to mention the role of the owner in a dog’s behavior. While there are many incidents of dog bites by all sorts of breeds, the only ones the media focus on are ones involving the so called 'dangerous' breeds so the public perception of these dogs is often skewed. Owners of ‘vicious’ dogs are significantly more likely to have a criminal record than those who owned non-vicious dogs regardless of breed, This highlights a major flaw with breed specific legislation – it focuses on the dog, and takes no account of the ability of the owner to look after the dog, or how the dog has been trained or treated,
It is clear that a dog’s breed is only one factor which may affect its behavior. Attempting to define the law purely in relation to breed has failed to protect the public. The widely accepted view is that the way a dog is trained and treated is far more important in determining its behavior than its breed,

These dogs speak for themselves in the right hands, No dog is born dangerous, may it be a gun a baseball bat a knife or a dog the human in possession should be held fully responsible.

Impotent Please note only register in the topic link below if you will be attending this protest,
looking forward to seeing you all there.

i think Sunday would be a bad day this protest was just to support restricted breeds in general but now because of DCC we're more thinking on the lines of a weekday so we could protest outside DCC buildings and hopefully a representative from DCC would agree then to speak to us, what do you think? well done to everyone, the posters were brilliant and really sent a clear message cheers
on Thursday evening there was also a tv coverage on the RTEnews at 6pm - they first showed Paul and Zena playing then went on to the protest and interviewed Lily.
Pity I couldn't make it Sad
