As far as I know it's only banned in 5 countries in Europe ( Austria, Finland, Germany, Great Britain and Sweden). Don't think Ireland comes under this but hoping for a change soon.
There's nothing like a boxer, rottie, dobermann etc with a long wagging tail!! I love you I love you

Unfortunatley its still legal here but should only be carried out by a veterinary surgeon/veterinary nurse under the supervision of a vet.
We can show docked breeds with full tails now though.

what age are these pups? and HOW is this "person" intending to dock their tails? its a viel procedure. is there any real reason for this? ive seen pups ending up in pounds with SCABS on their tails due to this inhumane ritual. WHY? in the cases ive seen maybe it didnt go according to plan and the outcome was unsucessfull or unapealing to the eye of a potential buyer! tell me this why do people dock a tail and then dump a dog? cant people see what nature intended? modification of a dogs body is mutilation and abuse. and the same goes for poeple who want to clip the ears of dobermen...cosmetic surgery is a choice for people. not to be inflicted on dogs for their image they are NOT commodities. im really pissed by this i had a poor pup here once and his stump was soooo itchy all he did was try to catch it all day for a nibble to relieve his discomfort, gimme a break and go to hell to anyone docking tails. WOULD YOU DOCK ANYTHING YOU DIDNT LIKE ON A CHILD????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Nope, still allowed for show and non-show dogs once it is done on dogs over a specified age and by a vet/vet nurse its all above board.

Its not nice with the babies but there are very real benefits to do it in some adults who's tails become damaged - the procedure can be done under GA and normal post op and wound management provided.

fair enuf if the tail is damaged or broke, my grandad bred dogs when my mam was little and what went on with regard to docking was not pleasant. its one thing that gets my goat up!there are so many websites explaining how to carry this procedure out....and how irresponsible is that? and how many morons are following these instructions? nature is there for a reason!

People in the UK are now coming here to buy the breeds that are docked. It's about time this government pulled it's head out of it's a**e and made it illegal here too. No

what is in peoples tiny minds that make them want a dog with a stump of a tail. isnt it one of a dogs pleasures to wag its tail to communicate its happiness? and us real dog lovers isnt it one of our greatest gifts when our best friends tail is going like the clappers in delight when they see us? the tail has a great purpose dosent it?

I agree Siofra, i put up a good arguement with these people but i lost the battle but hopefully not the war. Nothing warms the heart like your faithful friend wagging the tail to welcome you home.
Its just a pity that our laws remain so out dated.
