Friends Of Ben Dog Rescue is against Breed Specific Legislation. We believe that punishing an entire breed of dogs due to irresponsible ownership is discriminatory and unnecessary. We believe that more stringent laws and education programmes need to be put in place to promote responsible ownership, training and breeding. Breed Specific Legislation has been proven to be ineffective in other countries and we urge the Irish government to follow the recent actions of the Dutch government and move away from breed specific legislation and towards appropriate punishments for irresponsible owners, increased subsidised neutering schemes and education programmes.

We urge all our members to behave responsible in relation to their dogs. This involves actively socialising your dogs and providing adequate training, to reduce the risk of an aggressive incident occurring, and to promote the positive nature of those dogs named on the restricted breeds list.

The Friends Of Ben Forum is available to our members to provide support if any issues arise with their dogs and we would urge all our members to make use of this facility.

well said this is the only way forward, but with BSL it makes it impossible to socialize dogs as they are restricted from beaches, parks, some training classes they have to were a muzzle be kept on a leash, BSL has caused this problem along with irresponsible owners Sad
