Shira - White Akita Girl approx 18 months old *rehomed*
This beautiful girl has been straying in Leixlip for the last couple of weeks. I traced her owners through her microchip but they don't want her any more
She's a very placid girl but a real escape artist so will need to go to a home with an incredibly secure garden. She can open gates and doors and can get out of a crate. Her previous owner said that she could scale his 6 ft back wall (I suspect a lot of that was down to a lack of exercise and boredom)
At the moment she doesn't like it when I leave the room but I think it's just a settling in thing so for now she's sleeping on the floor at the foot of my bed . She's not a howler or a barker, but it's just not possible to contain her in one room due to her special door opening talents She's housetrained and will sit and stay and is excellent on the lead and in the car. She was very nervous when I first spotted her in Leixlip about 2 weeks ago but has calmed down a lot and loves to just curl up on the floor at your feet or rest her head in your lap for a cuddle.
She's excellent with other dogs and is getting on very well with my two. She loves her walks and playing with the balls she's found in the garden.
She's going in to be spayed and have a full service tomorrow and will be available for rehoming in a couple of weeks if she hasn't found a rescue space by then.
Here's some photos of the beautiful Shira.
If you are interested in offering Shira a forever home or rescue space then please post here, PM me or phone me on 086 8097745.
Karen.

Shira is just a fab, fab girl. Slept all night on my bedroom floor and didn't budge or snore
She's just so quiet compared to my two nutters. She's a real pleasure to have around the house. Had my friends over last night. They have 2 dogs and my friend is pregnant with her first child and her husband is going into the guards in November so will basically be away for the whole pregnancy - and they still wanted to take her home
Love her

Shira has settled in really well here. She was spayed yesterday so was a bit out of it and just slept for most of the evening. Today she was back to herself again and had some breakfast and then we all headed out for a walk.
The secret to having her happy in the house is to leave all the doors downstairs open so that she can come and go as she pleases Today she slept for a couple of hours on the landing, then came back downstairs and flaked out on the sitting room floor for a while. She sleeps loads!!!!!
Her previous owner said to me "she's mad, she can't be trained". I've never heard such B****KS in my life. She responds to sit, stay, leave, "Ah ah" (when she's at her stitches lol). She's incredibly responsive. I suspect that she just wants to have company as much as possible and this may not have been the case in her previous setting.
I would love to see her go to a home where there's someone around most of the time, where she can have the run of the house and obviously with a very secure garden. In return she will be the perfect companion, affectionate, placid and just fabulous!

I have to work from 2pm to midnight on Saturday with the coffee van. I will have someone coming and going to let Millie and Sandy out but I don't think Shira will do too well without company for such a long time. Is there anyone that could hold onto her from Saturday morning until Sunday morning? She's no bother apart from the escape expertise but if there's someone around she'll happily just sleep on the floor for the day.

If you can't find anyone why not ask the other lady?? Who'd found her first?

Jesus, Karen, this is painful to watch... When are you going to put yourself out of your misery and announce that she is going to stay with you
Re: Shira - White Akita Girl approx 18 months old *rehomed*
Not gonna happen I'm afraid. Much and all as I would love to.
But I don't have the room, and Sandy is afraid of her

Shira is booked to a fabulous home with another Akita and an experienced Akita owner in the UK courtesy of Friends of Akitas.

She is beautiful Karen, you did an excellent job by taking her and finding a home for her
I can see Millie and Sandie will miss her too...
Good luck Shira in your new home and well done again to your great foster mom

Re: Shira - White Akita Girl approx 18 months old *rehomed*
Well myself and Shira had a very early start this morning. Left here at 6.20am to go and meet Lorraine and Anna (the other Akita girl who is going to Scotland to Shira's auntie:D). We drove to Dundalk to meet Eamonn who took the girls onto Belfast to meet Shirley who came over from Scotland this morning to collect Shira and Anna. Also met up with Ann (Tempo) in Dundalk so it was nice to put a face to the name (she's a lovely lady!!!) Anna jumped into the van without a bother, Shira was a little more resistant (that's when the tears started). I cried all the way home but I have to say it was really nice to have Millie and Sandy here for cuddles when I got back.
Here's a picture of the two lovely girls getting to know eachother.
For the rest of the day I reserve the right to be an emotional wreck - this one was way too hard to let go. It was like Cassa all over again (Christine will know exactly what I'm talking about coz she saw the state of me then as well).
Good luck in your new home Shira. Be good for your new Mum and play nicely with Bailey. I know you're going to be very happy, but we'll all miss you lots and lots (including my neighbours who got a daily lift from you looking out the window at them each morning as they walked by).
